Child Safety Standards

Last updated: 2026-06-13.

Spot is a shared grocery-list app for two partners. It is not intended for children and does not offer public profiles, public feeds, open messaging, or discovery of strangers. The only content shared is between two people who have explicitly invited each other to a private list.

We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This page sets out our standards, in line with Google Play’s Child Safety Standards policy and applicable law.

Our standards

  • Prohibited content. Uploading, sharing, or storing CSAM or any content that sexualizes or exploits minors is strictly forbidden under our terms of use and will result in immediate account termination and reporting to authorities.
  • Not for children. Spot is not directed to users under 13 (or under 16 in EU member states that set a higher digital-consent age). We do not knowingly allow accounts for children under those ages.
  • No stranger contact. Content is only ever visible to a partner the user has personally invited; there is no public surface, recommendation feed, or open chat that could expose a minor to strangers.

Reporting CSAE in the app

Any user can report content from the in-app Report affordance on an item. Reports are routed to a human operator for review. Operators can escalate confirmed CSAE through our reporting pipeline. You can also email us directly at csam@spotgrocery.com.

How we respond

If we discover CSAM on the service — through a user report or operator review — we report to the designated authority in the applicable jurisdiction:

  • United States: NCMEC’s CyberTipline, per 18 U.S.C. § 2258A.
  • United Kingdom: Internet Watch Foundation + National Crime Agency.
  • European Union: the relevant member-state hotline within the INHOPE network, and Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3).
  • Canada: Cybertip.ca (Canadian Centre for Child Protection).

We preserve reported content for 90 days from the report (or longer under a law-enforcement preservation order) so investigators can secure legal process before evidence is destroyed. We do not notify the uploader that they have been reported, where the relevant statutes impose a non-disclosure obligation.
